The Boy Scout Handbook App Reviews

So...there is a new scout manual out, when will this app be updated to reflect that? Clicking on the support only sends me to scouting.org home page when it should sent me to a support contact. Cmon BSA you should be better than this.

BSA recently released a new edition of the scout handbook. Ive been disappointed that the app wasnt updated with the new handbook.

Love it but needs to be updated to the new book

The book needs updated as it doesnt have all the requirements for the scout rank

While this edition is better than the new one, requirements change every year making this "app" very out dated and worthless.

Or release the new Scout handbook?

This could be such a useful tool for scouts, but BSA needs to get catch up. This is at the very least 2 years out of date.

Would like to know when 13th edition is coming.

This app is 4 stars to me. A five star app would allow you to follow your progress and mark things off. For example if if finish 2a in tenderfoot i should be able to check it off. Please make that happen! Thanks

I was dissapointed. It is not much better than a PDF version of the book. I would hope that they will do some updates to make this a lot better. I would wait to purchase it until it has some features that add value beyond a PDF like app.

A must-have for any scout with an iTouch or iPhone! Of course, this shouldnt be theyre ONLY copy, they should have the original book, too!

Expensive compared to other apps but cool to have. Please add a "go to page __" and "back" button. Search could be improved its not a complete search. I tried searching "page 31" and nothing came up. Good start but keep working on it to make it a true 5  worth the $10.

I use this extensively as a Webelos Den Leader, when learning ahead to what the boys will be doing in the next years of scouting. I prefer to use this in "2x" mode on my iPad, as its perfect for reading without squinting. I very much appreciate this as reference material. The "Boy Scout Handbook Support" link points to the scouting website, so I do not know where to report bugs. I have found one minor bug with the page resize feature. Double-tap to zoom in on a page, and then tap and slide to turn the page. Tap and slide again to return to the page that you zoomed. Notice that it is back to default size. Double-tap to zoom again. It is now very tiny.

On my First Scout Meeting crossing over from webelos II to Boy Scouts I didnt have my book so I asked troop leaders if I was aloud and it was ok. It was Excellent! Magnificent! Wonderfull! And I use it now at home for requirement reminders and for reading. I really love this. BSA is also a great program ( whatever I could name it ) Ive learned a lot! As an American I Will Do My Best to Be Clean In My Outdoor Manners, Be Carefull With Fire, Be Considerate in the outdoors, and be Conservation Minded. I would now reccomend an app with all Merit Badge Pamphlets

Dont know what field craft is in the print version now but it is nothing close to what is in my old handbook from 1982. I would not suggest this app as it has very limited skills. Its more of a checklist and planning guide than an actual Boy Scout Handbook.

I loved the book, used it all the time during Scoutmasters Conference. I upgraded to iPhone 4 and the book didnt come along. Um not paying another $10!

This is terrific now when I forget my book at home I use my iPod!!

I have had this app on the iPhone and iPod touch and it is so much more useful on the iPad. It makes for fabulous demonstrations!

Please update with more features. Its been over a year since it was updated. It takes forever, even on an iPhone 4 to load a page. Otherwise, its a great app. It has all of the information from the printed book and its a fantastic reference.

This a good tool, especially when combined with a merit badge app. Now Id really like to have a Guide to Safe Scouting app.
